Desktop Backup Software: The Defining Features

Is it really that important for people to invest in desktop backup software? Consider this little fact: pretty much everything people do every day of their lives is done online, through a computer and no matter how well organized you may have sorted your files on your iPhone, your tablet and your gaming device, it all boils down to using a personal computer at home to store the majority of all your software, office files and documents.

With a single swift stroke from a power outage or when a deadly virus infects your computer and eats away your storage space faster than you can click, all that data is gone in the blink of an eye, no matter how hard you try to prevent these things from happening. This is why it is essential to keep an updated backup of your desktop and this is the very reason why desktop backup solution is important.

Irene Hurricane

When you are going to shop for PC backup program you have to put into consideration the defining features that identify the ideal desktop backup software from a weaker product that will drive you nuts. The first thing you need to look into when buying a backup program is its complexity level. It is easy to get lost with a lot of things computer-related and having a very difficult desktop backup software system can kill your motivation to continue with protecting your system.

You also need to consider how autonomous the PC backup solution works. It is essential that you get automatic updates when your desktop is backing itself up and when this process is complete. Along with this important feature is the ability to automatically schedule backup sessions. These are very important features because you never know when something could happen and many times people forget to manually start a backup process so having the software automatically do it for you is one of the best choices you could go for.

There is a lot of desktop backup software that tend to create multiple backup data. This eats a lot of space on your hard drive and it takes a much longer time to complete the process so look for a good desktop backup that will dedicate its time and power to make only one, continuously updated backup file of your entire desktop. This will consume less time and it will be an updated, more refined desktop backup file.

Lastly do not be cheap with your choices when it comes to buying desktop backup software. Backing up your computer is an essential procedure to avoid disastrous problems in case your computer system just crashes due to a good number of reasons (viruses are the number one culprit here). You get what you pay for when it comes to a lot of computer-related products and the same can be said of backup software. There are a lot of aspects you need to look into just to make sure you won't lose everything you have worked and paid for in your computer so look for desktop backup software that fits well into your budget.

Hurricane Irene

How would I tell the story about Hurricane Irene if I were a reporter and standing in exquisite sufficiency? In our consumer culture, news is crafted to sell and entertain as much as it is to inform. While listening to the hurricane reports I heard:

Reeling Devastated Washed away Damaged "It's not worsening but it's not getting better."

Irene Hurricane

Language is power. There is what happened, that a hurricane swept over the Northeast and caused measurable damage and effected many people. And there is how we talk about it that creates our relationship to what happened. The effect the words above have on my body, my mood, and my relationship to life itself are feelings of overwhelm, loss and weakness.

In contrast, I heard a version of the story from a friend in Vermont, one of the areas that was deeply affected by the storm. She talked about losing beloved covered bridges and flooded buildings, and also about the gatherings of people coming to help, free food being distributed, communities coming together for support, and vacationers volunteering to help. She reflected on an overall mood that left her feeling ok. I would say she was standing in the sufficiency - the what is-ness - of a situation labeled a tragedy.

There is way to speak about a story - to ourselves and others - that allows us to hold the tragedy inside of the sufficiency that is actually present in how people respond to life's challenges.

Life is full of storms and we have a choice about how we want to be in them. The manner in which we face those challenges will offer the opportunity for us to develop resilience and faith or for us to harden and turn our hearts to stone. This is true personally and collectively.

How the story is told matters. The language used to describe events around the globe for anyone not directly affected will either cultivate our faith and resilience or perpetuate our belief that the challenging events of life are catastrophic and we have no power in the face of them.

As listeners, we can bring this awareness and ask: What would be possible - personally, interpersonally and collectively - if we stood in sufficiency when listening to the news?

Having heard both sides of the story, I can see and hold the exquisite sufficiency present in the face of what appears like tremendous scarcity.

Predict Weather and Plan Your Daily Activities With a Home Weather Station

If you are a person who usually goes out for family outings or weekend adventures, you might know of all the problems that come along when the weather suddenly changes. Say you're having a fun picnic on a nice sunny weekend and suddenly the weather changes from sunny to cloudy, and it starts to rain. Your picnic is ruined. In order to avoid this you can now get a home weather station that will help you decide when to go for an outing, and where to go.

There are a number of problems faced by individuals everyday only because of the ever changing weather. Most people try to avoid this by watching the weather channel and intently listening what the weather man has to say about the future weather conditions in a particular area. But everyone knows that the weather man is not always right and his information can make a pleasant day become extremely unpleasant. The reason why so many people get misleading information about weather conditions is because weather changes when we travel from one place to another. It is extremely localized. This is why we sometimes see rain falling in one area of the city and sunshine in the other.

Irene Hurricane

You can avoid all these problems or difficulties by simply getting yourself a home weather station. A home weather station is a device that uses advanced technology to combine readings like humidity, wind velocity, indoor and outdoor temperature to predict the weather in a certain location.

They are highly accurate devices that will not let you down and can be placed inside your house. It will help you understand the weather a lot better for you to be able to go on with daily life without any horrible surprises.

There are many different types of home weather stations available in the market today and depending on your needs, you can get one that has a number of features like rain gauges, wireless sensors or just get a simple one that predicts the weather for the day.

The more advanced home weather stations use a number of sensors that record things like wind velocity, atmospheric pressure, humidity and rainfall levels, and then sends these readings via radio waves to the main unit. The main unit has includes the display and a microchip that translates the reading sent from the sensors in order to forecast the weather.

Getting a home weather station [http://www.weatheranchor.com/Home-Weather-Station-c1.html/] should allow you to plan activities for the following week (or maybe less depending upon the model), without you having to worry about making last minute changes. It is accurate and can be a lot of fun, and forecasting the weather can even be taken up as a fun and exciting hobby.

Five Basic Tips For Starting a Family Health Tree

Did you know that genealogy could save someone's life?  How? By taking the research findings, tools and techniques from a family history project and turning it into a family health tree!  This leads us to our first tip...

Tip #1: Utilize the tools, techniques and information you use in your genealogy research, to aid in creating a family health and medical history diagram.

Irene Hurricane

Lots of diseases are passed on from generation to generation - they are hereditary.  Other diseases are not genetic in nature, but because your family and you probably share similar lifestyles and diets, then you all tend to get the same types of health problems and diseases.

By learning about the diseases you or others in your family are most likely to get, you can prevent them before they even get started!  This leads to the next tip...

Tip #2: Get Complete and Accurate Information!

Start gathering information about yourself first, then work up your family tree, going to your parents next, then grandparents, then aunts and uncles, etc.  On to the next tip...

Tip #3: Gather the Correct Information

You need health information such as: race, current age, relationships status, lifestyle, physical conditions, chronic conditions, etc.  Which leads to the next obvious tip...

Tip #4: Interview Your Relatives (Carefully!)

Start off by interviewing your family members just like you would for a genealogy project.  Be careful about how you ask certain health questions because some people are very sensitive to these questions.  They don't want to share much information - or any at all!  Medical and health data is a private matter - even between close family members.  Explain your purpose for asking; ask politely; choose your words carefully.

Tip #5: Use Your Information Sources

Whether you're an amateur genealogist or a professional, the sources you use are the same ones to help you find family medical information.  Use government documents and other vital records as well as personal anecdotes, journals, diaries - even photographs can contain hidden nuggets of information.

[Side Note: Now is a good time to learn about a "genogram" - what it is, how it can help you and your family, how to make one, etc.]

If you haven't figured it out by now - you are the one person most suited for creating your family health tree.  You are the one with the interest and desire for family history information.  You are the one willing to do the interviews and other research.  It only makes sense that you become the owner of this potentially life-saving project - you've got the skills and resources others may not have.

A family health tree is not a quick, easy project for you to tackle, but the benefits to you and your family may prove to be immeasurable.  I urge you to think about creating a family health tree the next time you're doing genealogy research.

Best wishes to you!

How to Get Hurricane Irene FEMA Contracts

Although Hurricane Irene has passed, the Eastern seaboard is still feeling her wrath in the storm's wake. Millions are still without power and damage from high winds and flooding is estimated at nearly Billion. FEMA is continuing to coordinate with federal, state, tribal and local government partners as well as private sector organizations in response to the disaster. Contractors are needed immediately to help FEMA in providing relief and supplies to affected families and start rebuilding damaged structures and roadways.

In order to qualify for FEMA contracts, you must be a registered vendor in Dun & Bradstreet, the Central Contractor Registration and ORCA. Your company must also complete a FEMA Vendor Profile.

Irene Hurricane

Many other departments and agencies are expected to take part in Hurricane Irene emergency response, including the Department of Energy and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Most of the United States Eastern Seaboard and surrounding states have been affected in some way by Hurricane Irene. Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia have all been affected to some degree by this massive storm system. To date, there have been at least 21 deaths reported throughout nine states. Vermont has experienced the worst flooding the state has faced since 1927. Many other regions experienced flood water and wind damage. Millions of households are without power. Approximately 2,500 residents of North Carolina's Hatteras Island were stranded after Highway 12 was severely damaged by the storm surge.

Vendors across many industries are urged to prepare for upcoming contracting opportunities to aid in disaster relief and rebuilding efforts. While there will certainly be a need for debris removal, construction services and emergency supplies, there will also be a demand for other goods and services as well. Businesses are urged to complete their registration as soon as possible in order to meet the needs of federal, state and local governments affected by the storm.

In order to complete registration quickly and start competing for Hurricane Irene FEMA contracts, vendors may consider using the services of a third party registration firm to assist them with their CCR registration, ORCA filing and FEMA Vendor Profile. To help them gain an edge over other vendors, contractors should also complete their Dynamic Small Business Profile and put together a capabilities statement outlining their company's strengths and experience.

FEMA contracts are just one of the many ways that business owners can provide aid and assistance to the families and businesses affected by disasters. In order to take advantage of this opportunity however, contractors should act quickly to complete the necessary registration and start bidding on available contracts.

The Pineapple Express - Natural Phenomenon

People along the western coast of North America are subjected to a wide range of weather meteorological phenomenon ranging from sun, clouds, rain, hail and snow usually in predictable patterns through seasons. However, with global warming, new, more frightening weather events have started to make a presence around the world ranging from torrential rainfalls to drought to hurricanes and tornadoes.

The Pacific Coast of North America is famed for its mild weather, rain and mountainous locales - recently however it has become home to an unwelcome visitor, the Pineapple Express. Also known as the Pineapple Connection, the Express is a meteorological phenomenon with much atmospheric moisture leading to heavy rainfall which is brought northwards from the Hawaiian Islands. This occurs only on the Pacific Coast of North America and is named as such for the Island's bounty of pineapples grown throughout the year.

Irene Hurricane

The Pineapple Express for many has been the source of inconvenience, wet weather over a span of a few days and danger. The sudden burst of heavy and continuous rain has burst dams, caused waterways to overflow and major floods such as the 1952 Central California Flooding, 1964 Pacific Northwest Flood and the 1996 Willamette Valley Flood which caused millions of dollars of damage and the loss of several lives. 2006 was an especially difficult year as areas ranging from Puget Sound along Washington and British Columbia, Canada to Alaska were hard hit with severe flooding and a record rainfall of over 350 millimeters.

The Pineapple Express is a strong southern branch of the Polar Jet stream with a frontal boundary moving at such a slow pace (or not even at all) with waves of low pressure emanating from it. These low pressure systems are the main culprits of heavy rainfall. Along the coastline there is large volumes of rainfall, however, in British Columbia, Canada, the higher elevations see high volumes of snowfall quickly followed by rapid melting at the warmer temperatures from the Hawaiian Islands are also brought with the Pineapple Express phenomenon.

Sometimes dropping a small volume of rainfall along the Pacific Coastline of North America, the Pineapple Express has also been known to double the average monthly rainfall of the area in a matter of days. Satellite photos of the Pineapple Express stretching across the western hemisphere is awe inspiring image of this impressive phenomenon which occurs only a few times a year.

The Huguenot Emigrants 1680 - History of Charleston South Carolina the French Church

The Huguenot emigrants, who only arrived in Charleston 1680 to 1686, began their "French Church" in Charleston about 1687 in the upper part of Charlestons Church Street on land conveyed by Ralph Izard and Mary his wife (a Miss Middleton) for that purpose. Isaac Mazyck, one of Charlestons earliest and wealthiest emigrants of their race, gave generously to Charleston. At the other end of Church Street were the Baptists, on land in Charleston given by William Elliott, and the Quakers had a Friends Meeting House outside the walls, near to the present King Street in Charleston. Thus in ten years from the founding of Charleston or Charles Town there was no lack of places of worship; it is remarkable that although no one of the original buildings in Charleston remains churches still stand upon each of these sites, belong-ing to the same organizations and denominations. The " Friends' is the only exception to this. The building was destroyed by fire, and there being no Quakers now in Charleston it was never rebuilt; but the lot is kept sacred, and is still owned by the society.

So far the people of all these various denominations were, with the exception of a few Dutch, from Nova-Belgia, descendants of Great Britain, subjects of the King; but now from 1680 to 1688 came the French Huguenots, strangers and aliens, into this English community.

Irene Hurricane

Charleston had not seen the last of Sir Henry. He came back to charleston with an army in February, 1780, and advancing this time by way of John's and James Islands, crossed the Ashley River above the city of charleston and laid siege to it from the rear on the main land. About the same time, the fleet, mindful of its former drubbing, ran past Fort Moultrie, under a heavy fire, without attempting to engage it, and, in conjunction with batteries erected on James Island, threatened the city of Charleston from the south and west. A shot from one of these batteries, that stood near the conspicuous point called the "Hundred Pines," left a mark in Charleston which may still be seen.

At the intersection of Broad and Meeting streets there was then placed a statue of William Pitt, raised by the grateful colonists in recognition of that statesman's fearless espousal of their cause in the British Parliament, in resisting the Stamp Act and other oppressive measures. A cannon shot from James Island, unmindful of the distinguished statesman at home, and of the fact that he was then upholding his government manfully in the pending struggle, struck the statue. carrying away its arm, and otherwise mutilating it. It now stands in Washington Square, hard by its former location, with its beauty still sadly marred by what was a home bullet if not a home thrust."

General Lincoln, who commanded the American forces, should not have attempted to stand a siege the city of Charleston, but should have saved his little army - sadly needed elsewhere while yet there was time. He was in a cul-de-sac, without hope of relief, was largely outnumbered, and his capitulation was only a question of time.

Hurricane Katrina's Effect on New Orleans

Most people will never forget the impact that Hurricane Katrina had on the city of New Orleans. Katrina made landfall with 125 mile per hour winds. The lack of data and preparation made the impact of the storm even more significant than what it would have been.

Heavy rain fell along the state. Because of heavy rain, Lake Pontchartrain rose and caused massive flooding along the northeaster shore. Bridges were destroyed and the power was out for almost 900,000 people.

Irene Hurricane

The city was subjected to brutal winds and rain for hours. Katrina stormed full force and 53 levees that were to protect New Orleans failed. Roads were damaged and there was only one way out. As the winds continued and the rain fell, windows in high rise buildings were blown out.

Since many people prior to the storm did not heed the word to get to safety, they were sent to the Superdome that was turned into a shelter. With massive amounts of people sheltered there, two sections of the roof peeled off and fear struck the people staying there.

The storm took a deadly toll. Victims lay dead in the street and survivors trying not to be horrified by the site. It took days before victims of this terrible disaster were able to be collected. Sadly, the first deaths were reported from nursing homes where most likely they died of dehydration. Deaths were also reported at the Superdome where displaced families were just trying desperately to survive and understand the horror of what had just happened to them.

Today the city is still rebuilding. The people of New Orleans try to put the tragedy behind them as the rebuild homes, remember their loved ones that were lost and regain the strength they need to move forward.

Find Ancestors

Tracing your ancestors is so rewarding when you find ancestors to add to your family tree it's very exciting. The internet has made public records research so quick, easy and affordable. Sites that specialize in researching public records lets you search multiple databases all at the same time, you can have access to birth, death, and marriage records instantly, and many more records as well. This means that you can find ancestors without having to spend hours and hours researching.

The first place to start is by asking relatives what they know so you can start with facts that you know are hopefully true! After that it's best to go online with a site that has all the birth, deaths and marriages for your country. You can also check military records and emigration records as well. Just remember names do get slightly altered as I found out with an Auntie of mine who arrived from Greece but on the passenger list was down in the Greek pronunciation of that name, it was only that I recognised the rest of the family names that I realised who she was.

The internet is fantastic for researching your family tree for one ancestor I simply typed his name into a search engine and I document came up relating to his death what a find that was.

I love to find ancestors its so rewarding (although I have many still to find) I look forward to the next ancestor I will come across in my quest to build my family tree. So have fun researching, and good luck.

Weather Systems Are Created by the Movement of Air Fronts

The sun and atmosphere work together to create different climates. The air masses are moved by the changes in temperature. The disparate temperatures on the Earth's surface are caused by the different proximity of these areas to the sun. The equator is near the sun on the Earth's entire orbit.

This means that the surface on the Earth at the equator is hot, sunny and has many hours of daylight. The poles are the farthest from the sun and are the coldest and darkest areas of the planet when it is winter and sunny but still cold in what is considered summer there. The farther from the equator you get, the more seasonal the climates become. The climates in the middle of the equators and poles at what are called the middle latitudes are four season climates.

Irene Hurricane

The air moves in masses caused by these irregular heating patterns and the boundaries between them are called fronts. The atmosphere is constantly moving the air around in an attempt to gain equilibrium, or equalized pressure between the warm and cool air. Air that moves also hits stable air and all the molecules mix together. When the cold air moves into warm air, it is called a cold front; a warm front comes from the opposite motion of warm air into cold.

Warm fronts rise above and on top of cold air. As the warm air cools the molecules form water vapor, and become clouds. First are the high cirrus clouds, then come the aptly named mid level followed by thick stratus clouds. Thick stratus clouds are the ones that sometimes cause rain and wind conditions.

When a cold front hits a warm air mass, the result can be more volatile. Convection occurs when the cold front sharply pushes the unstable warm air up. These winds create cumulus clouds and these clouds bring the thunderstorms. The upward motion also creates low pressure situations that make the wind blow harder. Along the cold air in front there will be the actual hard rain and sharp wind. The air behind it that has warmed a bit will simply bring rain. If the cold air takes over the warm air slowly, it becomes an occluded front and stratus clouds with light precipitation result. Stationary fronts occur when two very weak fronts meet and neither takes over the other. They simply sit and rain on the area until all of the air warms up or cools down and progresses on as a cold or warm front.

The oceanic regions of the Earth encompass 70% of the surface area. Climates in coastal areas are affected by the temperature of the seas, as saltwater is a very good conductor of both hot and cold temperatures. Great Britain is much warmer than most of the other land in its same latitude because of the warm Gulf Stream.

Turning a Portable Garage Into a Disaster Relief Shelter

Instead of creating a tent out of a blue tarp, a portable garage would make a stronger shelter in case of disaster relief. Although many companies offer different kinds of disaster relief shelters, including yurt-like round tents, collapsible horseshoe-shaped shelters, and insulated-foil domes, a standard portable garage can be adequate temporary shelter, as the structure is made out of sturdy steel and the canopy is made out of polyethylene, which allows for more circulation and protection than a blue plastic tarp. A portable shelter needs to be sturdy and impermeable to many elements and weather conditions, including sun, rain, hale, and snow.

In some natural disasters, such as in the aftermath of many Gulf Coast hurricanes, blue tarps have been used as temporary roofing to protect from leaks and internal damage. But, if used as an entire shelter, a blue tarp is not enough protection to last for months. Blue tarps are waterproof or repellant, but they often keep moisture under, which leads to dry rot and mildew on vehicles. For humans, this would create hot and humid living conditions.

A portable shelter can double as a disaster relief shelter, as long as it is strong enough; a portable garage rather than a less-sturdy party tent would last longer. A portable garage can often protect a vehicle throughout the winter months as long as it is anchored properly. This is nearly the same for a disaster relief shelter, assuming it is made out of the same materials as a portable garage. The most common portable garages are made from a 100% steel frame and a polyethylene canopy that is UV resistant, waterproof, and anti-fungal. Unlike a carport, however, which needs no sidewalls to protect a vehicle not in use, a portable garage turned disaster shelter should have walls and at least one door - or zippered opening. Ventilation is also necessary. Although polyethylene is far more breathable than a medium-duty plastic blue tarp, the tent should have some air circulation.

Anchorage for a portable shelter is similar to holding down a portable garage. If the shelter is being used on concrete or hard ground, sandbags filled with gravel or sand should be used to keep the portable shelter in place. But, if the shelter is being used on softer ground, the usual methods for anchoring a portable garage are enough.
