The Psychology of Winter!

It's winter! That cold and snowy time of year when people change their lifestyle to suit the environment and wonder about times past and future. We welcome the sight of pure white snow piled in amazing configurations over ground and trees. Jack Frost paints his masterpieces on windowpanes for our delight. We watch children with red cheeks build forts and snowmen. Furs and touques, mitts and scarves cover bodies with fading tans.

Winter brings the sounds of snow crunching under boots, graders searching for traffic lanes and children yelling jovial threats as they prepare piles of snowballs for the fight of the season. Birds chirp their thanks for feeders that have been filled with considerate hands. We enjoy the smells of hot chocolate, a fire burning in the hearth and something wonderful cooking in the oven. There is nothing like the taste of snowflakes gently melting on an outstretched tongue or the feel of a warm room after a walk outside in the cold.

Winter accentuates our feelings. Numb fingers and toes are warmed by neighbours who offer us a ride home. The dormant landscape lessens demands and allows us free time to escape into a good book or enjoy a romantic evening.

Some of us break the season with a dreamed of trip to warmer climates. Others haul out equipment not used at other times of year. Snowmobiles, skates, skis and hockey sticks emerge from their hiding places and challenge us to return to skills often learned in youth.

Winter is a special time. It allows us an opportunity to think about the past seasons and glean the lessons learned in them. At the same time, winter gives us a needed rest and time to plan for spring and new beginnings. The sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings of winter are yours to enjoy. I wonder what you will do with them this year.

What Should Be Prepared Before Winter Comes

For some people, winter could be pleasing and amusing season since they will meet some special days, Christmas and New Year. However, some other people do not really like this season since they need to do some preparations. Indeed, you need to prepare a lot of things before winter comes because sometimes cold might head you off from daily activities, especially outdoor ones. Preparing the following important things will be great to face winter in more convenience.

The first thing to be prepared is any supporting things or tools that will help you stay warm inside your house. Check well whether your heater works well to heat your room well or not. Surely, you do not want to find your heater fail to heat your room while the weather is chilling you. Make sure that you have spare clean filter in you home, as well. If you have gas heater, you should also check that the pilot light on your device works well.

Then, you should also fill your propane tank, if you have any, and make them ready to use. If you plan to heat your room by taking advantage of your fireplace, then you should prepare the wood. Make sure to prepare enough stock of wood to be used during the winter season. Besides, check your chimney as well and make it clean and before you light your first fire.

The second thing to be prepared is winter outfit. Buy some socks, gloves, scarves, and jackets made of warm fabric materials such as wool to help you stay warm during your outdoor activities. Make sure that you have enough winter outfits since you might also need it when you are doing indoor activity.

The third thing to be checked is whether there are any problems in your house or not. Check well the roof, the windows, the doors, as well as the basements. If you find any problem in any parts of your house, fix it immediately before the winter comes. Surely, you do not want to fix any damage in the middle of chilling weather, right?

Then, you can also have emergency preparation as the fourth thing to do. Keep enough supplies of food, water, some medicines, as well as some money for several days. These supplies will be very useful when the weather is going worse and makes you trapped in your house. If you have pets, you should also prepare some extra pet food. If your area tends to be icy, you should also keep extra salt for your steps and sidewalks.

By doing those preparations, you will be ready to face winter and many special moments during this seasons. The better preparations you do, the more convenience winter you will get.
