What Are The Different Kinds Of Weather Fronts?

Weather fronts are where two air streams meet. These air steams have different temperatures and humidity. The warmer air, being less dense, rises up over the cooler air. The warm air expands and therefore cools as it rises. Colder air can hold on to less water vapour. The water condenses out of the atmosphere, forms clouds and eventually rain.

There are different kinds of fronts

Irene Hurricane

Stationary Front - a front that is not moving

When a warm or cold front stops moving, it becomes a stationary front. Once this boundary resumes its forward motion, it once again becomes a warm front or cold front.

Cold Front - transition zone from warm air to cold air

A cold front is defined as the transition zone where a cold air mass is replacing a warmer air mass. Cold fronts generally move from northwest to southeast. The air behind a cold front is noticeably colder and drier than the air ahead of it. When a cold front passes through, temperatures can drop more than 15 degrees within the first hour.

Warm Front - transition zone from cold air to warm air

A warm front is defined as the transition zone where a warm air mass is replacing a cold air mass. Warm fronts generally move from southwest to northeast and the air behind a warm front is warmer and moister than the air ahead of it. When a warm front passes through, the air becomes noticeably warmer and more humid than it was before.

Occluded Front - when a cold front overtakes a warm front

A developing cyclone typically has a preceding warm front (the lead edge of a warm moist air mass) and a faster moving cold front (the leading edge of a colder drier air mass wrapping around the storm). North of the warm front is a mass of cooler air that was in place before the storm even entered the region.

Dry Line - a moisture boundary

A dry line is a boundary that separates a moist air mass from a dry air mass. Also called a "Dew Point Front", sharp changes in dew point temperature can be observed across a dry line. Dry lines are most commonly found just east of the Rocky Mountains, separating a warm moist air mass to the east from a hot dry air mass to the west.

Various Factors That Cause A Thunderstorm

A dramatic concoction of electrical discharges and loud thunders along with torrential downpour, hail and sometimes snow is a thunderstorm. Everyday about 40000 thunderstorms occur in the world, most commonly in the equatorial region and in the United States, specifically in the Midwest and the South of the nation.

Moisture, instable climate and air lift are the three primary causes of thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are examined to go through 3 distinct stages: the cumulus (or the developing) stage, the stage of maturity and that of dissipation.

Irene Hurricane

The first stage takes place when warm and moist air flows upward replacing the cold air. The air rises for convectional movement or frontal clashes or even orographic lift. The moisture content in the mass of air cools down and forms cumulus clouds. Condensation of the moisture also causes convection.

The mature stage of the storm begins with the rising air meeting the tropopause. Then the clouds spread on top and gives the cloud its characteristic anvil shape. In case of sever storms the updrafts are so strong that they even punch up to the stratosphere from the tropopause.

Within the clouds the water droplets turn into raindrops and even ice particles at times. Theses particles become rain again as they fall. Sometimes the updraft is so strong that it forms larger ice particles which do not melt and come down to the earth as hail.

Lightning and Thunder

When electrical charge builds up in a thunderstorm then the lightning is formed. These electrically charged particles emits bright light and the electrical current heats up the air into a plasma mass which produces the acoustic shocks which we can hear as the roaring of the thunder.

It is not fully known exactly how the electrical discharge creates thunder. The widely accepted idea says that it is the polarization of the precipitation within the cumulus cloud that produces it. As the ice crystals and water droplets move along the earth's electric field they take up positive and negative charges. The positively charged particles tend to go up while the negatively charged particles accumulate in the bottom of the cloud.

The oppositely charged particles attract each other but are insulated by the mass of air. When the charge builds quite strength, there might occur an electrical discharge within the cloud or between the clouds and even turn from the clouds to the ground. But one out of four thunders reaches the earth. Bolts of lightning moves at about 60000 miles an hour.

About 95% of the lightning is negative. This is because it is the negative charged particles that get discharged from the cloud. However 5% of the thunders are positive which travels down to the negatively charged ground. It was discovered only in the 1970s that the positive lightning is 6 to 10 times more powerful than the negative ones. It has the potential to become a threat to all mankind and technology.

Thunder forms when the lightning bolt heats its surroundings to a great extent and this makes it to expand and then contract fast. Sound travels slower than the light. This makes it possible for us to calculate how far the lightning is by counting the time between the light and the sound of the thunder. Sound travels at around one mile in 5 seconds. The thunders that occur about 20 miles away are usually not heard.

So next time you are taking a flight to Murcia in Spain and experience a thunderstorm you will know the dangers that thunderstorms pose.

Global Warming Favors Black Americans in the Long Run - White People May Die Out

Many Black Americans are angry over Global Warming, perhaps due to the Democrats pushing doom and gloom scenarios and scaring people. Since a larger percentage of Black Americans are Democrats, most Black Americans are angry and believe that wealthy corporations, which are run by mostly white people, are to blame. Indeed, in reality, if Global Warming were true, the hotter weather would favor those with dark skin and dark eyes over folks that are white with blue eyes.

As the temperature on Earth increases, if it increases for whatever reason, whether it is climate change or global warming (mankind's CO2 emissions) causing it - if the temperature grows more than 10 degrees F, then most white people will have severe health problems, skin cancers and all sorts of ailments, which will lead to their demise. Thus allowing humans with dark complexion to take over the World.

Irene Hurricane

So, in reality those Black Americans who are upset with the issues of wealthy white people running the world should pray for more increased temperatures and increased CO2 emissions. This will increase temperatures and allow dark complexion folks to run the world. Although such issues seem to be upsetting for people to discuss, it should be noted that the inferior blonde hair and blue-eyed traits are not long for this world if our Earth's atmosphere and climate continue to heat up.

Those who are white will have a tough time promoting their genetics in the future and those with the superior black genes, will have an advantage of survival of the fittest as the world around us changes. Remember Darwin's theory that the strong survive. Think on this.

Whether You Like It Or Not Weather Will Surprise You

Have you ever seen snow in August? What does it look like? Is it wet or dry when it snows in such hot weather and how does that happen? Once a very, very long time ago, I was running around on a friend's property, doing exercise, and while running, I saw these flakes coming down from the sky. At first, since it was on the East Coast, I thought it was from some incinerator or some pollution problem. It took me a few minutes while running to realize that there were no large buildings around and there were no incinerators or pollution where I was running. Wow! Wow, again. So what were the flakes that floated from the sky so majestically that I felt like I was dreaming? Snow! Everyone looked around and said, snow? Is that snow? Snow in August? Wow!

To us, having seen snow only in winter, this was a totally awesome weather surprise, and a most welcome one. Ha, ha, it gave us the excuse to stop running around outside, exercizing. And, yes, it was really snow. So if you were me, what would your reaction be? What would you think if you were running around in fall or even in summer and all of a sudden it began snowing, really snowing?

Irene Hurricane

I just stopped short, when I realized the manna from Heaven was indeed real snow. It almost reminded me of the other time that I was weather-shocked. Once a while back, I was walking and all of a sudden there were rocks all over. Clunk, clunk, and more clunk. I put my umbrelle up fast and then realized that the rocks were hail. Yes, hail. This hail was the size of golf balls. Wow, another weather surprise. So what was your most unusual weather surprises and where were you when that happened?

Have you seen hail that large? I invite you to communicate with me regarding weather or any other topic that I wrote about.

What Should Be Prepared Before Winter Comes

For some people, winter could be pleasing and amusing season since they will meet some special days, Christmas and New Year. However, some other people do not really like this season since they need to do some preparations. Indeed, you need to prepare a lot of things before winter comes because sometimes cold might head you off from daily activities, especially outdoor ones. Preparing the following important things will be great to face winter in more convenience.

The first thing to be prepared is any supporting things or tools that will help you stay warm inside your house. Check well whether your heater works well to heat your room well or not. Surely, you do not want to find your heater fail to heat your room while the weather is chilling you. Make sure that you have spare clean filter in you home, as well. If you have gas heater, you should also check that the pilot light on your device works well.

Irene Hurricane

Then, you should also fill your propane tank, if you have any, and make them ready to use. If you plan to heat your room by taking advantage of your fireplace, then you should prepare the wood. Make sure to prepare enough stock of wood to be used during the winter season. Besides, check your chimney as well and make it clean and before you light your first fire.

The second thing to be prepared is winter outfit. Buy some socks, gloves, scarves, and jackets made of warm fabric materials such as wool to help you stay warm during your outdoor activities. Make sure that you have enough winter outfits since you might also need it when you are doing indoor activity.

The third thing to be checked is whether there are any problems in your house or not. Check well the roof, the windows, the doors, as well as the basements. If you find any problem in any parts of your house, fix it immediately before the winter comes. Surely, you do not want to fix any damage in the middle of chilling weather, right?

Then, you can also have emergency preparation as the fourth thing to do. Keep enough supplies of food, water, some medicines, as well as some money for several days. These supplies will be very useful when the weather is going worse and makes you trapped in your house. If you have pets, you should also prepare some extra pet food. If your area tends to be icy, you should also keep extra salt for your steps and sidewalks.

By doing those preparations, you will be ready to face winter and many special moments during this seasons. The better preparations you do, the more convenience winter you will get.

Atlantic Hurricanes - The Top 3 Atlantic Hurricanes in Recorded History

Living near the Virginia capes, I know about hurricanes, and have lived through a few. Recently, we had a close call with a hurricane.   In the local newspaper they had a picture of a property affected by that "close call".  In the picture, the road that I was driving on just last summer, is now 100 yards out in the ocean!   It got me to wondering what the most dangerous hurricanes have been. The three I found are 1) 1992 Hurricane Andrew 2) 1926 Miami and 3) 1900 Galveston.   Read on and I'll show you why they are at the top.

Hurricane Andrew 1992. This was the 2nd most intense hurricane. It struck the Bahamsas and later on hit Florida.  Estimated Damage was .5 Million. But there was another storm that was quite dangerous.

Irene Hurricane

In 1926 the Miami hurricane was particularly deadly. It wasn't just devastating to property but it also took many human lives. It was the most destructive storm in the US. And after hitting Florida, the result was 325 deaths. Some estimates suggest that the death toll could have gone up to 800.

The last of the top 3 hurricanes came in the early 1900's. It was the Galveston hurricane  This was the most damaging.  With a death toll of 6,000 people, it took out all of Galveston. Even today, they remember the impact this storm had on the area.

Each year hurricanes come and go, but these three remain in everyone's memory: Hurricane Andrew, the 1926 Miami hurricane and the 1900 Galveston hurricane.  If you want to learn more, check out the hurricane websites online. You might find out others that were also dangerous.

Tornado Chasers

In the U.S., tornadoes are responsible for 80 deaths and more than 1,500 injuries each year. Although they occur quite frequently, tornadoes are difficult to predict. Why? Tornadoes develop from storms, but only some storms have the potential to become tornadoes. Meteorologists don't know where and when a storm will touch the ground and turn into a tornado. Today the warning time for a tornado is usually just 13 minutes.

Tim Samaras is a storm chaser. H is job is to find tornadoes and follow them. When he gets close to a tornado, he puts a special tool called a turtle probe on the ground. T his tool measures things like a twister's temperature, humidity, and wind speed. With this information, Samaras can learn what causes tornadoes to develop. I f meteorologists understand this, they can warn people about twisters sooner and save lives.

Irene Hurricane

How does Samaras hunt tornadoes? It's not easy. First he has to find one. Tornadoes are too small to see using weather satellites. So Samaras can't rely on these tools to find a twister. Instead he waits for tornadoes to develop. E very May and June, Samaras drives about 40,000 kilometers (25,000 miles) across an area known as Tornado Alley, looking and hoping to spot a twister.

Once Samaras sees a tornado, the chase begins. But a tornado is hard to follow. Some tornadoes change direction several times -- for example, moving east and then west and then east again. When Samaras finally gets near a tornado, he puts the turtle probe on the ground. Being this close to a twister is terrifying. Debris is flying in the air. T he wind is blowing at high speed. H e must get away quickly. The work is risky, even for a skilled chaser like Samaras. But danger won't stop his hunt for the perfect storm.

Killing a Hurricane by Throwing Sawdust Logs Out of a Military Cargo Plane

There are so many pseudo science volunteers out there scheming ways to kill a Hurricane. One USA Today article listed just a few of the ideas that backyard self-proclaimed geniuses had come up with and it was fun to review this at the Online Think Tank. After discussing this for a few years, it seems that perhaps one of these brainstorm concepts might work and thus, we have been reviewing all the information we can to learn more about these disastrous storms.

Not long ago some sent us an email with an attachment labeled "white paper" and in it was a scheme to knock down a Hurricane by throwing sawdust logs out of a Cargo Plane. Sound nuts right? Well this is indeed what we told the originator of the concept; Joan McKinna from Berkeley, or rather the one who makes the claim to have originated the concept.

Irene Hurricane

In ancient times various types of oil were dispersed into the sea by sailors, one science fiction writer; although I cannot for the life of me remember who thought about throwing out sawdust out to stop the Hurricane, no not from a Cargo Military Jet Aircraft, but a similar proposal. Various people have considered throwing out various things over the years and it seems to be a re-occurring popular topic.

Can this concept work? Well, our genius from Berkeley thinks so, using sawdust logs and perhaps dropping them like bombs or out the back of a military aircraft or UAV. Personally, I think that this is a crazy idea, but who knows, some of the other ideas we have read seem a lot crazier than this one. Sincerely, Lance.

Christian Right and Global Warming Debate

Many of the top TV evangelists Christians have joined the Global Warming fear Motif. Some have asked what the Christian right by TV preacher can win this? Now some say they have more access to the main sources of news media. So far, only a TV series with pro-conservative news to get. By combining the environment, Al Gore's global warming debate, they can have it all.

You would think the Christian right has nothing to gain except through appeasementthe fact that the fear of global warming is now a trend of moving away. How the Catholic Church had done for centuries, it should be included to expand its base and control of waste and the turnover of its members by focusing on the views of more socialist.

Irene Hurricane

The fear of global warming has been adopted, it will be recalled from the Democrats and the Socialists and the Christian right is now at the center and allows Ratchet to find the direction of all the trends are movingthe center, only to find the new center on the left, which will move again in the near future. And 'how are things in history.

Since I am not any religion, I just watch and observe everything. Christians have much to another as the fear of global warming due to the fear of hell, no one believes that to win more. Thus, the fear of the future and remember the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, self-preservation is very high up there.

The fear of global warmingis also able to use over played video of Natural Disasters like Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Ice Storms, Heat Waves, Wild Fires, Parched Earth Droughts too. Actually it really is even a Bigger Fear than Y2K, or Russian Nuclear Threats. It is right up their with the Fear of Speaking German and NAZIs taking over the world.

One would suppose next will be Fear of Space Wars with China, Terrorism with Nuclear Weapons, Computer Network Melt Downs and this Global Warming things is a real hoot I tell you. Long live the Global Warming Fear God. I hope this article makes you think n 2007.

Tornado Facts - About The Fujita Scale

Here are some interesting facts about the tornado tornadoes are measured and evaluated the path. The standard scale used to reduce the size of a tornado is measured is the Fujita Scale or F-scale called, as it often is called. The F scale was developed in 1951 by the Japanese American meteorologist Tetsuya Fujita.

This scale classifies tornadoes on a hierarchy of the amount of damage they have caused. By measuring the amount of damage, wind speeds can be determined and usedto rate the tornado on the Fujita Scale. Certain types of damage happen at different wind speeds. After a tornado has passed through an area experts will assess the type of damage that was done to structures and trees. By studying the types of damage they can determine the category or size of the tornado.

In 2007 the Enhanced Fujita scale was developed by the Texas Tech. University Wind Science and Engineering Research Center in conjunction with other wind engineers and meteorologists. By incorporating improved knowledge of wind speeds and the resulting damage they were able to determine a more accurate assessment of a tornado based on its destruction path. The scale retained the original categories of the Fujita Scale but the associated wind speeds were revised. Below is the enhanced F Scale or EF Scale rating measurements that were adopted by the National Weather Service in 2007.

EF0- Estimated winds of 65-85 mph.

EF1- Estimated winds of 86-110 mph.

EF2- Estimated winds of 111-135 mph.

EF3- Estimated winds of 136-165 mph.

EF4- Estimated winds of 166-200 mph.

EF5- Estimated winds over 200 mph.

Advancement in Local Weather Radar Reports

Throughout history, many lives have been lost in the hands of the storm. Meteorologists and scientists is always looking for new ways to increase the warning time for these storms, with the hope of reducing the loss of human lives. In recent decades, the local weather radar advances have been made which allow greater precision in predicting the paths of these storms, meteorologists so that reports of bad weather and warnings earlier than in the previous issueYears.

Meteorologists and scientists have been able to successfully monitor named storms and tornadoes NEXRAD possible by an advanced tracking system (next generation radar). NEXRAD is a network of 158 Doppler radar detection time. The high resolution of the computer system takes readings on the amount of precipitation in the air, the movements in the clouds and the wind speed during a storm.

Irene Hurricane

These readings are bounced on a computer weatherand a colorful image is rendered on the screen, giving meteorologists a clear picture of what kind of weather is on the horizon. This final image is what you see when the meteorologist breaks in with severe weather reports and warnings, usually with a description of how he maps weather radar.

In the case of severe weather, the meteorologist will relay the readings found by the local weather radar to the residents in the area. Most likely, on your television screen you will see a computer animated image of the approaching storm.

If the storm is severe enough, then the National Weather Service (NWS) will issue severe weather reports of severe thunderstorm warnings for your area. In that case, the storm captured on radar will have produced strong readable winds, detectable lightening, and some hail. Paying attention to the weather map is vital when severe weather is around.

On the television screen you will see several colors on the precipitation map, ranging from blue (the lightest) to black (the heaviest). If the colors for your specific area are yellow, take caution. If the colors range between orange and red, take cover immediately, as damaging winds and dangerous lightening have been reported.

When local weather radar in Atlanta, Georgia reported high winds, circular wind patterns, and large hail earlier this year, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning. Meteorologists in the area used the collected data to predict what path the storm would take, indicating which areas needed to be warned.

Thanks to this technology, most residents received the severe weather reports early enough to allow time to seek shelter before the storm hit. Paying attention to your local weather source during severe weather plays a vital role in your safety.
